Our only April event was the Anchor Boy trip to the Big Blue Frog.

Around 40 boys descended on Calderdale’s largest play frame for a night of swinging, sliding, climbing and running. The boys had a terrific time. The most difficult part of the evening was dragging the lads away!

Thanks to all at the Big Blue Frog for letting us book the venue and for keeping the lads (and staff) fuelled with food! Thanks also to Christian, our Anchor Boy Chairman, for organising the event.

We’re all on our Easter break now. We’re back in May with the kick off to the Junior Section Summer Football league.

By Halifax BB, Mar 20 2017 08:59PM

We’ve had a busy March with every Section holding at least one event.

We began with the Company and Junior Sections 5-a-side football competitions. We saw a good standard of football played across both leagues with plenty of goals. The Company Section also saw a few red cards although these were mostly dished out to the watching Company Section staff for criticising the referee!

Congratulations to the Elland/ Lee Mount joint side and Salem who were joint winners of the Junior league. One of the Elland boys was quoted as saying “well, there are no easy games at this level, we just take it a game at a time”. Obviously, someone had got the big book of footballing clichés for Christmas! Congratulations also to Carlton who won the Company Section competition. Thanks to our referees and to all who helped organise the event.

Our Anchors and Juniors took over Electric Bowl in Halifax over two evenings in March for a night of ten pin bowling. We had around 110 boys and girls take part over the two events and they all had a fantastic time. We saw some impressive scores over the two nights which would rival some of the efforts at our Officer bowling night!

If you were planning on a trip to Electric Bowl and planned to order chips, then you’re out of luck. Our boys have eaten the lot with the notable exception of one lane who decided to prioritise the bowling! There is a first time for everything. Thanks to Electric Bowl have hosting us over the two evenings and to all the staff that made the event possible.

Our Company Section also held their first aid competition this month. Congratulations to the winners from Carlton. Thanks to all who helped organise the event.

The latest Junior Section challenge winner was also announced this month. The challenge was to build the tallest free-standing tower using only marshmallows and spaghetti. Congratulations to Carlton who managed a massive 70cm- twice as big as the second placed entry. A prize will be on its way to Carlton in the next couple of weeks.

We just have the Anchor Boy trip to the Big Blue Frog next month. It’s always a popular event with the boys so no doubt it will be a terrific event.

The Company Section has been busy this month as they have held two competitions.

First up was the Company Section Basketball competition on the 3rd February. We saw a decent standard of play with each team improving as the night went on. There was some really exciting games and the teams enjoyed taking part. Thanks to all who helped organise the event and to our referees and score keepers who helped the event run smoothly.

Congratulations to the joint team from Carlton and Elland who were the overall winners.

A couple of weeks later we went snooker loopy (technically a different sport but you get the idea) at our Company Section Pool night. Thanks to Halifax Snooker Club for hosting the event, the lads all enjoyed taking part. We ran a couple of leagues with the top four qualifying for the finals. We also had a chance to have a go on the simulators where we played football, basketball and zombie dodgeball.

Congratulations to Jack from Carlton who was this years pool champion. Well done to all the lads who entered. Thanks to all the staff who helped organise and run the competition. Really enjoyable evening was had by all.

We’ve got a busy March to look forward to with 5-a-side football, bowling and first aid all on the calendar. To keep up to date with the latest events, follow us on twitter or facebook using the addresses below....

We're back underway and have held two competitions to kick off 2017 in style!

On Saturday 21st January, we held our annual Swimming Gala.We had three trophies on offer on the night which werecompeted for by our Junior and Company Sections. As usual, it was a good evening- thanks to all who came along to support the event and for your generous donations. A total of £110 was made which will go towards the cost of the event.

Congratulations to our three winning teams from Carlton, Salem and Elland. Thanks also to the Officers from our Elland company for organising the event.

Just a few days later, we held our second event of 2017 which was the Junior and Company Section Dodgeball competitions. Both competitions were keenly contested and we saw some exciting games taking place.

Congratulations to Lee Mount for 'doing the double' on the night and winning both competitions! Thanks to all who helped organise the event and to Lee Mount for hosting.

The Company Section have a busy February with the Basketball and Pool competitions taking place. Hope to see you there!

We’ve had lots happening in November with each Section holding an event plus a Leadership weekend thrown in for good measure….

We kicked off our November events with the Company Section Hockey competition. As usual, it was a competitive event- congratulation to Carlton who ran out the eventual winners. Thanks to Pellon for organising the event and to our umpires for keeping the lads on the straight and narrow!

The following week was our Leadership weekend for our Queens and Presidents badge candidates. Although it was very much a working weekend, it was still enjoyable. We hope the young people got a lot out of it and are looking forward to putting some of their new skills in to practice in their Companies. Thanks to the team of Officers who organised the weekend and led the training.

The Junior Section event for November was the Quiz Night held on the 23rd. It was great to see an increase in numbers for this competition- we doubled last years attendance. Ryan and Katie, two of our younger Officers, organised the event for the first time and did a terrific job. The teams were close throughout and the general knowledge competition went down to a tie break. Congratulations to Elland who took home the General Knowledge trophy. The other trophy up for grabs was for the Bible Quiz, congratulations to Illingworth who were the victors of this for the second year running. Thanks to all the staff who helped organise the event and to Lee Mount for hosting.

The first Junior Section Challenge of the year was also decided during November. The Juniors were challenged to build a car powered solely by a balloon. The car that travelled the furthest distance was the winner. Congratulations to Illingworth whose car travelled a distance of 453cm. A video of the winning run can be found on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/HalifaxBB.

We capped off November with our Anchor Boy Christmas party. Over 40 boys had a brilliant time playing games, making snowmen (with a willing volunteer and some toilet rolls), watched a puppet show and enjoyed some food. A great afternoon was had by all and the boys all left with a party bag! Thanks to all the staff who made the event possible.

We have three events coming up in December. The Company Section Chess competition is next up on the 1st. Good luck to all taking part. The Anchor Boys and Junior Section are then holding a joint Circus Skills evening with Shooting Stars Circus Skills on the 9th December. This event is fully booked up and is highly anticipated by both the Anchors and Juniors. The all-important Officers Bowling event the follows on the 11th. I’m sure this will be highly contested once again!

On behalf of all at Halifax BB, may we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We’ve had another few weeks packed with BB activity.

The Company Section have held their Volleyball competition. It’s not one of our more traditional sporting events but the Company Section have a great time trying out a sport they wouldn’t usually play. Thanks to all who helped organise the event. It's fair to say the teams improved as the night went on. We even saw a few rallies near the end of the night! Congratulations to the team from Carlton who went unbeaten on the night to claim the title.

The following evening the Battalion band held a reunion and retirement event for Allan Hainsworth. Allan stepped down as bandmaster after 40 years’ service. A great night was had by all, the highlight of which was some band members, past and present, playing one of Allan’s favorites ‘the Phantom of the Opera’. On behalf of the Battalion, we would like to thank Allan for his time as bandmaster.

Our Founders Day celebrations were also held on the same weekend. Unfortunately, we couldn’t parade this year but we still enjoyed a good service led by our Battalion Chaplain, Rev. Paul Welch. The highlight of the day was watching the Queens and Presidents badges get presented to some of our young men by the Mayor of Calderdale. Well done boys, a great achievement.

The following Friday we had a brilliant time at the Anchor Boy Fun Evening. The boys made sock puppets, played games and put on a shadow puppet show (pictured above). We even had time for hot dogs and drinks. Thanks to all the Officers and helpers that helped run the event. A fantastic night was had by all.

We’ve a bit of break before our next Battalion event in November. Why not visit our events page to see what’s coming up next…

We've had a busy start to the new session and have already held our first two events of 2016-17!

Our first event was the Company Section 5-a-side football evening at 3Gi Soccer. It is only a friendly competition but, of course, the boys take it as seriously as ever! Well done to all the lads who took part. Congratulations to the Carlton/ Elland Boys' Brigade who topped the table at the end of the night. Thanks to all who helped organise the event and to our referee for the evening - I've never seen anyone ref in flip flops before!

Next up, was the Junior Section Team Games competition held at Salem Methodist Church. As usual, this was an event our members thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks to Phil Prince for running the event and to all at Salem for their hospitality. Thanks also to all who helped run the event.

The most controversial moment of the night came when Phil revealed that there would be no Smarties at this years event- these had been switched with Maltesers. The Juniors didn’t seem to mind though- kids today, no respect for tradition! It was a closely fought competition with the margin of victory just a single point, congratulations to the joint team from Lee Mount, Pellon and Salem who were the overall winners on the night.

We've got lots happening in October including our Founders Day Service, Company Section Volleyball and the Anchor Boy Fun Evening.

Why not look where your nearest Company meets and encourage your son to join the adventure!

On Friday 1st July, the Company Section (and the staff) had a brilliant time Operation Laser Tag in Brighouse.

We played several games including capture the flag/ hat, defend the village and the traditional death match! It was pretty even between the two teams throughout the event. It's fair to say neither team excelled themselves in 'protect the VIP' as they both lasted under two minutes.

The boys had a fantastic time, thanks to all at Operation Laser Tag.

The Battalion is now on it's summer break, we hope you all have a brilliant summer and we look forward to seeing you all in September.
