Well that's the 2017-18 session done! We just have our Battalion camp between now and September.

Our final event of the session was the Company Section Laser Tag event held at Operation Laser Tag in Brighouse. The boys and staff had a great evening. We had a really good turnout and enjoyed the friendly(ish) competition. The boys used the breaks between games to talk tactics and swap war stories.

The Anchors had their final event in June with their summer fun evening. Our under 26 group organised the evening and did a brilliant job running the games, organising the treausure hunt and sorting refreshments. The Anchors all had a fantastic night, thanks to all involved.

The Junior and Company Sections also held their Athletics competition in June. The Company Section enjoyed the traditional track and field events while the Juniors took part in more serious persuits such as welly throwing and the egg and spoon race. We held the event at Spring Hall Atheltics track once again and took full advantage of the facilities. We also saw some unorthodox techniques during some of the events; one lad from Elland eschewed the usually favoured 'Fosbury flop' approach to the high jump and instead went for the Neymar dive. He finsihed second #pioneer.

Thanks to all who have been involved in organising our events this year. A nother memorable year for the Battalion. Happy holidays!

On Saturday 19th May, we held our biennial Fun Day and what a day it was!

Each Section had some fantastic activities for their members. The Anchors enjoyed some games, a bouncy castle and we even found time for a couple of magic shows. Due to a lack of the traditional ‘glamorous assistants’, the magician had to settle with Christian. Despite this setback, the magical maestro delivered two shows that enthralled the Anchor Boys, parents and Officers.

The Juniors had three inflatable activities; an assault course, a jousting game and a punch wall as seen on ‘Total Wipeout’. The jousting game stirred some intrigue amongst our younger officers as they were set up for the day. The aim of the games is to straddle a horizontal pole, that is set up on a similar structure to a bouncy castle, and knock your opponent off the pole using an inflatable joust. The staff struggled with the first part of the game….actually getting on the pole. It is harder than it looks, the best tactic was to clamber up the side of the inflatable and lower yourself on to the pole. The Juniors really enjoyed taking part in all the games and there was a prize for the winners of the mini-tournaments.

Meanwhile, the Company Section ran a Laser Tag tournament throughout the afternoon. It was good to hear the lads from different Companies talking tactics and swapping war stories. Even the staff for involved and it was good to see Sections enjoying each other’s activities.

A fantastic event and a superb team effort, thanks to all involved!

The Junior Section Football competition is also now underway and we also have the first ever Ultimate Frisbee event to look forward to!

The Anchors had a fantastic time at the Big Blue Frog in Halifax on Friday 20th April. The venue hosts Calderdale's biggest play-frame and the boys covered every nook and cranny of it! They were also treated to some food before playing Laser Tag while the staff picked through the leftovers.

It was every man for himself in the Laser Tag game and the lads showed no mercy as they charged around the play-frame firing indiscriminately at anything that moved. The scoreboard constantly updated giving us a guide as to who was winning and how accurate (or otherwise) their shooting was. After a couple of games, it was time for the boys to head home.

Rumour has it that some of the staff stayed behind and a go at the Laser Tag game themselves but I cannot confirm and deny this (mostly because Johnny won). A great night was had by all.

The Junior Section summer football league kicks off in May. We have a new condensed format for this years competition. See your Company leaders for more details.

We also have our biennial Fun Day on Saturday 19th May. We have lots of activities booked for all age groups and it promises to be a cracking day. The Anchor Boys can look forward to games, a bouncy castle, Punch and Judy and magic, the Juniors have several inflatable games including an assault course and punch wall and the Company Section have a Laser Tag game taking place throughout the afternoon.

It promises to be an awesome afternoon, don't miss out!

The Beast from the East has disrupted our Battalion calendar slightly over the last couple of months. The Junior and Company Section 5-a-side football event was postponed as a result of the weather, this has now been rearranged for Friday 13th April.....what could possibly go wrong!

The Anchor Boy and Junior Section Bowling events did go ahead as planned and it was great to see so many boys in attendance. We had around 80 boys bowl over the two events and they got through the same amount of chips as the Town of Whitby do over a summer weekend!

We saw a variety of different bowling techniques at the Anchor Boy event including the 'shot-put' method and the 'run up and slide' approach. Luckily we managed to prevent the 'toe-punt' method one boy was considering.

Thanks to Electric Bowl in Halifax for hosting the events and to Christian for organising.

We have a busy few weeks following the Easter break. The Company Section are due to visit Electric Bowl on the 16th April and the Anchor Boys will be visiting the Big Blue Frog on the 20th April.

May we take this opportunity to wish all of you a happy Easter!

Our first two events of 2018 were as competitive as ever!

Our annual Swimming Gala was held on Saturday 20th January at Halifax Swimming Baths. Thanks to the Officers from Elland who organised the competition and to all who helped out on the night. The bucket collection raised over £90 which was a fantastic effort. Congratulations to all who took part and to the winning teams in their respective age groups.

The following Wednesday, we held our annual Dodgeball competitions. A competitive night of Dodgeball was enjoyed by all- in the Junior competition, not one game went the full distance. Congratulations to Elland who were the eventual Junior Section champions after a final that swung both ways with Carlton. Congratulations also to Lee Mount who were the Company Section champions. Thanks to all who helped out in both competitions and to Lee Mount for hosting.

The Company Section have a busy month ahead with their basketball competition on the 2nd February and the pool night on the 15th. This is swiftly followed by the Junior and Company Section 5-a-side football competitions on the 2nd March.

Lots to look forward to as we begin our adventures in 2018!

Our Anchor Boys were the first to get into the festive spirit with their Christmas party on Saturday 25th November. The Anchors had a great time playing games, watching the Lee Mount puppet show and, of course, eating. The games included making our traditional ‘toilet paper snowmen’ and ‘pin the nose on Rudolph’. I did have to field several complaints from disgruntled Anchor Boys during the latter apparently they “couldn’t see anything”. Attempts to explain the point of the blindfold fell on deaf ears and one boy proceeded to remove his before his turn.

A fantastic afternoon was had by all, thanks to Lee Mount for hosting and to all the staff who helped make the event possible.

The Junior and Company Sections have also held events this month. The Juniors held their Quiz Night on Wednesday 22nd November. Thanks to Katie and Ryan for organising the event- all the teams competed well throughout although the staff looked baffled during the music round; I saw a couple of Juniors attempt to explain to their Officer who Harry Styles was!

Congratulations to the team from Elland and Lee Mount for winning the Bible quiz and to Carlton who were this years General Knowledge champions.

The Company Section held their Hockey competition in early November. Congratulations to the team from Salem who were the overall winners on the night. Thanks to all who helped organise/ run the event.

On behalf of everyone at the Halifax Battalion, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a very happy new year.

Wow, it has been a busy month!

Our BB Companies in Halifax are back in action following the summer break and we've kept them all busy with several Battalion events.

One of the highlights was a Junior 100 birthday party held in Elland on Wednesday 27th September. There was a great turnout from the Juniors and they enjoyed playing marbles, doing some 'minute to win it challenges' and making Lego creations. No party is complete without a cake and we would like to thank Jenny Heavyside for making the cake (pictured)- it went down very well!

The Juniors have also held their traditional team games event at Salem. Congratualtions to the Illingworth/ Salem team who won the competition. The Juniors had great fun as always.

The Company Section have also held two events, the 5-a-side football event and the volleyball competition. The 5-a-side was just a friendly tournament and all the lads enjoyed taking part. The standard of football was good, the standard of refereeing......only joking Dan! The Volleyball competition took place in October and we saw all the teams improve as the night went on. Congratualtions to Salem for taking home the trophy!

We also held our Founders Day service in October. It was fantastic to see so many young people get presented with their Presidents and Queens badges. Another highlight was presenting last years Battalion charity, Andy's Man Club, with a cheque for £695,a great effort. #itsoktotalk

Our final event in October is the Anchor Boy Fun Evening which will take place on Friday 13th at Boothtown. We have some fantastic activities lined up for the boys- hope to see you then!

We’ve had a busy start to summer with lots happening in May and June.

Our Junior Section football league kicked off in May. After six weeks of (mostly) good weather, the league reached its conclusion and we crowned Salem as champions. Well done to all the Juniors who took part, it’s been great to see so many of you enjoying their football on Monday evenings. Thanks to all the staff involved with organising this competition and to all our volunteers who have brought their teams, refereed, coached, washed kit and supported the event.

We were at the Halifax Charity Gala on Saturday 10th June. Despite the mixed weather on the day, we raised over £1600 for Battalion funds. A fantastic team effort as always; thanks to all who ran our refreshment marquee, organised the float, BBQ, penalty shoot-out and coconut shy. We even got awarded the runners up prize for the best charity stall! Well done to all involved.

Our under 26 Officers organised this years Anchor Boy Fun Evening in June. An enjoyable evening, with plenty of games, a scavenger hunt and, most importantly, doughnuts, was had by all. Thanks to the under 26 group for organising the event.

Finally, we held our Junior and Company Section Athletics competition on Friday 30th June. The Juniors competed in sprints, long jump and those more traditional Olympic sports welly throwing, bean bag throw and egg and spoon. The Company Section had a go at the long jump, high jump, sprints and the dreaded 800 metres! Well done to the Junior Section winners Illingworth and the Company Section winners Elland and Carlton. Thanks to all the Officers and volunteers who helped organise the event tonight. Great team effort as usual!

Two more events to go this session. Firstly, we have the Junior Section Games Master on Wednesday 5th July then we have the Company Section Laser Tag event on Friday 14th July.
